WorX in food science and technology careers
The Food WorX CD, produced by the Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology and some of Australia's leading food businesses for the Australian Governments' National Food Industry Strategy (NFIS), introduces students to the idea of a future in food.
Food WorX raises the profile of food science and technology as a career and is aimed at Years 10-12 students. A copy of FoodWorX has been made available to every secondary school in Australia.
Students' understanding of a career in the food industry is often the traditional concept of what happens in the kitchen. Food WorX is about showing the amazing diversity of opportunities that can be found within one of our fastest growing and most exciting industries.
The CD takes students step by step through the development of a new food product, from its beginnings to the time it hits the shelf, showing just how important science is to the food industry.
New developments across numerous scientific fields have a huge effect on how the food industry prepares, preserves and packages its products. Like any other sector, the food industry needs to employ the latest technology and the latest consumer research if it is to give customers what they want.
'Real life' case studies of younger people working in the field are used in FoodWorX, together with information on various educational options.
